Hmmmm it's been a while. I see there's been a steady gain of followers since I've been gone, though! So, welcome!

While my job has left me rather exhausted artistically (I work in an animation studio now) I'm itching to get back into it. I've been posting a lot more sketches over on my tumblr than anywhere else, though that also gets spammed with cosplay and other various obsessions.

I've also been attending more conventions in the past year, seeing as how there was Anime Revolution and Cos&Effect in the summer, then AkiCon down in Seattle at Halloween and Anime Los Angeles/Disneyland at New Year's.

AND THIS WEEKEND IS SAKURACON. Normally I don't make too big of a deal out of this con since I frequent it rather habitually, but this weekend is going to be massive. As such, I've holed myself up for the past two months (during/after my move) to get all the commissions, props, wigs and other little things set up and going in time. I post more updates on that over here.

Speaking of, time to get back to work!

Otafest, MiniComi & AnimeRevolution!

Hey guys, long time, no activity.. heh. =v=;

Been more busy with 3D stuff for school, but I've been graduated for a week so I'm trying to sort out everything back into a routine. While I won't personally be attending Otafest, Maru Cosplay will be selling my art on my behalf! So for anyone in the Calgary area, be sure to stop by and say hi to the dear!

Unfortunately I haven't been able to make any new prints yet, but for both MiniComi (free event!) and AnimeRevolution I'll be working on some new stuff, so keep an eye out for that! I coerced *Nijuuni into joining me so come say hi! More than likely debuting new cosplays as well, but you'll have to wait and see whether or not I actually pull them off in time haha. ||'orz

I've got a few commissions to catch up on, some 3D work on the side to do on top of job hunting, but other than that I'm back! Thank you to all the new watchers as well, I appreciate every one of you and read every comment and note! <3 I'll try to get to those when I can, in the meantime my tumblr is a lot more active (though a lot of it is spamming kittens and things I find inspirational.)

I hope everyone has been surviving finals and/or the last few weeks of the winter term! Let's make sure summer is a good one. <3

conventions '11 journal!

I will be cosplaying as Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII with ~Rydia-Mist, ~Mini-MiVi and ~kerowiz. I'm unsure if I'll be wearing anything else for the second day yet. :'D

o1. notes
idk about most of you, but i love getting notes. when i click on that little yellow icon, and i'm waiting for the page to load to see who it is, i get super excited. maybe its ~ninnt messaging me because our time schedules keep us from each other; or maybe its ~Go-Devil-Dante responding to our 3+ something year long note updating me on how she's surviving the 3D feature field; or maybe its ~Chichi69 bugging me for being away, or apologizing for being away herself, or perhaps a random deviant asking for advice on a tablet, or programs/freeware, or someone inquiring about a commission--

and by the time it finally loads, i'm so worked up and giddy that my replies tend to be a lot of all caps or mumbo jumbo that goes off topic more times than you can count on your hand.
i apologize to anyone who's received such a note, that's just my excitement translating into text.

o2. comments
i won't lie; i love getting comments.who doesn't, amirite? no matter what kind of comment, i always try to respond to every single one. although i've found there's a few categories:

i. the love
the people who squeal all over and gush how wonderful everything is, and how perfect everything looks. the people who always boost up my ego, who i of course and very thankful for.its refreshing to once in a while hear that people like your stuff. i typically reply to these with a polite "thanks," and sometimes a bit more.

ii. the friends
the people who spazz all over my crap and act like rabid fangirls (~kerowiz, ~Mini-MiVi; i'm looking at you) if you see stuff like this, just ignore them. 8D typically whatever they're typing won't make any sense, and they don't mean any harm at all.

iii. the critiquers
i enjoy receiving constructive criticism. this means comments that are based off the motive to help me improve my art, not tell me how such and such looks wrong without a followup as to how i could improve upon it. since i'm not in school at the moment, i'm lacking the constant bit of, "this looks a little off," or "try pushing the perspective a bit more," and these are things that help me improve in leaps and bounds (or so i'd like to think.)

i do my best to thank these people, since i really do appreciate the help. unless something is stylized (eg: long limbs like CLAMP, big animu eyes (god forbid) etc.) i'll run with what you tell me and try to apply it to my next piece, since i'm too lazy to go back and fix a lot of something i've already finished. :'D

iv. the haters
i've noticed a more frequent presence of these comments recently. i'll do my best to respond neutrally in a calm manner, since i feel guilty leaving a comment unreplied to, but sometimes i don't think these messages are worth my time to respond to, since that only "feeds the trolls," and i'd rather not stir up drama in a place where i'm looking to make friends and improve my skills.

o3. replies
so many of you. i have crazy long-ass threads with so many of you. ~McHuggies probably holds the record (rofl gg man), but *Nijuuni and ~Sujun, ~ninnt and a few others aren't far behind.

i love to talk to people on here. i really do. if you strike up a conversation with me about something interesting, chances are i'll keep responding until the topic fades or dies off. i'm not going to outright ignore you, so feel free to chat me up! :3

i have thanked each and every one of you for adding me, simply because i really am grateful. when i first joined dA no one batted an eye at me, and even now i don't really feel like many people pay attention (since i can only tell when i get a comment or a fav here and there) but regardless, i must have done something for you to add me to your watch.

i like to give critiques. i try to help my friends or random deviants as best as i can so that they might improve with their own skills as well. !aeues; that's how we kinda met hahah, i'd redline stuff. *seiryuuden has great coloring skills, but i like to push her more since i know she's capable. and *Nijuuni sometimes flips her panels in a confusing way, but she says she knows (and is just too lazy ROFL) so i just leave it at that.

i understand some people don't like critique, and rage like hell when i try to offer some insight from another perspective, but i understand. just let me know and i'll leave you to your own devices.

thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes!! i really had quite an amazing day. considering the celebration for it has been going on for a week now (LOL... kinda) i'm not sure where it really started and ended........ but legally, i'm a year older now. 8'D

AND MY SUB DIES tomorrow morning, hence the last quick journal for a while.
i'm still taking the cheap $5 color-sketch commissions for anyone who's interested, so just send me a note and i'll get that done within a few days' time.

as for everything else; still kicking myself over prints for MiniComi as well as Cos&Effect; yes, i have a table at both, so if you're in the vancouver-metro area, come stop by!! 8DDD

super cheap! i'm looking to help alleviate some of my monthly expenses, and with all my jobs i'm itching to have something to draw!

i'll be doing halfbody color sketch commissions for $5. halfbody is thigh up, and the same rules apply as before; i'm open to pretty much anything, fanart or OCs. add a character for $3, max of 4 per picture.

the point of this is to be able to finish them quickly once i get them, so you're not waiting around.

... is in less than a few days and i'm nowhere near ready. ; A; i probably would have been able to finish my costume by now if i wasn't working 7 consecutive 8 hour shift days every week this month, but what can i say; i need the money. orz

even dA has kind of been put aside for me recently.. whenever i'm at home i'm stuck crouched on the floor in some painful pose pinning or cutting or sewing, never mind getting to actually use my tablet. ( god i miss it ; A; ) the only drawing i've gotten to do in the past month is sneaking some sketches in at work during the downtime, but forget that, since we sold the store and the new management just came in.

yeah, I like that number. whoever catches it will get a free sketch-color request from me. it's been ages since I've done a kiriban, I figured I should show some appreciation to all my new watchers, as well as the older ones who have stuck with me through this painful period of my style ~~failing~~ experimenting.

Please take a screenshot of your whole screen; I need to see the time that it was taken at in case there's more than one.

In other news, I started a mall job in where I'm the only fulltime worker, so I've got 7-day/week shifts piling up on me all of a sudden. Not to mention I can't even find time to work on sewing, you could imagine how often I sit down and draw now. (though I will admit I doodle sketches at work in my downtime (who doesn't.))

Thank you to everyone who showed interest in the discounts. The 3 spots have been filled. I am still taking commissions at my regular prices now, and before anyone complains about how "expensive" they are, I'd like to quote *Robaato:

"Freelance doesn't mean we do things for FREE."

I don't do commissions for fun, or to renew my subscription. I went to school to become an artist, have the credentials to be charging minimum wage per hour that I work, but I understand not everyone on here has a lot of spending money to burn.

Please just consider the fact that I'm trying to scrape by, just like most of you, and keep the nasties to yourself.

i'm not sure who else does this, but i have a bunch of "inspirational" devs sitting in my box that i still haven't gotten around to... in the sense that; they motivate me to do something new with my art, be it perspective, colors, theme, whatever.

oh, and i sort of reorganized my tumblr that nobody knew i had.

speaking of sketches, and art; i haven't been up to finishing a whole lot recently. a few weeks back, ~Rydia-Mist and myself went fabric shopping for costumes, so i've been popping over to her house whenever time allows it to work on stuff.

on top of that, the ever-so-kindly-amazing-~DingyNinja is making both my costume and her own for SakuraCon (which is getting a lot closer than i'd like it to be.) i must say, even to this day, with the frequency i attend cons, i don't think i've ever had the "multiple costumes weekend" experience before, so this should indeed be an interesting time.

i am still working on those collabs from the last journal. *A* i don't think i'm gonna bother "inking" the lines i'm passing off to people... it just gets too tedious, considering how far i clean up my sketches anyways. but i am still working on those!

and to top it all off, i started working this past monday. its not a 9-5 job, but i'm keeping it weekdays only, although the hours are more like 4am-12am. here's hoping my sleep schedule doesn't end up royally raped.

tl;dr:

BUT FIRST PLZ NOTE I KNOW MY SKIN IS BUGGY, its gonna be fixed soon, but i can't be bothered to try and figure it out myself right now, it's not my coding lol. :'c

sooo, since i've stopped getting commissions (despite there being 2 more at 25% off) i've noticed i have a collection of some 10+ WIPs that are just not getting done..... (~Rydia-Mist: i'll pass you the lineart of that gift i was making for you since i've kinda lost interest in coloring it; i wanna draw you something else instead, in light of new information XD)

so i figure, i wanna start doing some collabs here. idk if people would rather i pass them off a sketch or lineart, or if they'd want me to color something of theirs (LOL, who would? my coloring is so bland) but just send me a note or something if you're interested, and i'll see what we can do. :3

as for the new year, well.. i'm doing my best to stick to my resolution. i may have ignored the "wake up at a normal time everyday" already but i'm focusing on being productive, getting work, and perhaps going back to school if i can't procure the sort of career i'm aiming for right now. believe me, its like a kick in the face to have graduated and not having any work to help get rid of the loans you took out to go after it in the first place.

but i'm not here to complain. i'm going to try and make a short video by myself with what i've learned, and see if that would win me points on my applications, because apparently beating out 23,000 others around the world in a contest isn't worth mentioning when it comes to who to hire. everyone is so fickle, huh hahahah.

something needs to give out here

i visit the studio my boyfriend works at, and just being there for like, an hour made me want to work so badly, i started scribbling storyboard panels on his notepad. that's how much i miss that environment; i get this rush of creativity, where no block could hold me back in that situation. for me, surrounded by artists, all working, is like immersing myself in a room full of imagination and everything needs to become visually marked, with either pencil or tablet.

i know i sometimes doubt my choice in occupation, but just being there, feeling that course through my body, that pure desire to create something, to be a part of something bigger than a few drawings on paper; that'll keep me going for a while longer.

handmade pouches & KH crafts!

HEY.

so wow, i've kind of been really busy this winter. i ended up spending most of my time trying to get commissions and gift-art done around the busy shopping schedule for other gifts. because of my financial situation i ended up making stuff for people, if i wasn't drawing for them..... it was sort of tiring LOL. but it was a good experience, and i enjoyed the process, nonetheless.

i got some spending money myself, so i bought Birth by Sleep - finally. i am so excited to get through this game and the story and just *A*;; i'm only on ventus so far, but i love love love the voices. i've also noticed that they're changing the models slightly; they're more proportionate to human beings, rather than the gargantuan feet and hands. its very slight, but its there, and i like it.

i also seemed to have made the mistake of finally getting a usb hub, since i'm tired of having to unplug random things to connect my portable drive, or sync my phone. there's not even a usb for my mouse; i'm relying 100% fully on my tablet. XD but yes, back to the mistake of the usb hub.....

i was so happy to finally have one, but 5min after plugging it in....

... it exploded. LOL wtf my luck right? they won't let me return it for a while either, because its "still boxing day" or something. so. i need to go find another one somewhere. ahhh well. better it than my computer or something haha.

Exclusive handmade KH lanterns!

~Caucasian-eagle is selling some pretty cool Kingdom Hearts based lanterns! the cost is pretty cheap, at only £8 or $12.32, and you can request custom without being charged commission, although it will be mass produced.

again.

yuppp. i decided my website was too much at once, so i divided it into two sections. now on the main page, you can pick the portfolio (which none of you should have reason to, seeing as thats for studios to look at) or the personal. the personal is where i'll be uploading pretty much all of my drawings, finished, unfinished, sketch, commissions, you name it. i'd like to add a cosgallery too, but that wasn't the main reason to update the site, so i've left that out for now. but we'll see!
